Payments for Young People

Young people between the ages of 18 and 20, registered with legal domicile in Iceland, may be entitled to payments on the basis of education. On one hand there is child pension for study purposes, and on the other hand is study contribution. Study contribution is a continuation of child support but entitlement to child pension can arise for example, if on or both parents are deceased or are pensioners.

Child Pension for study purposes

Main conditions are:

  • Parent is deceased
  • Parent is a pensioner
  • Paternity of young person has not been established
  • Low income of parent (Decision from the District Commissioner must be submitted)
  • Full time study in a recognized school

Study Contribution

Main conditions are:

  • Agreement or ruling from the District Commissioner of the parent being obligated to pay study contribution to the young person
