Families

Tryggingastofnun provides various assistance regarding children. Entitlements can be, for example, for chronically ill or disabled children, child support, parental payments, home-care allowance and child pensions.

Child Support

Child support is, all things being equal, paid until a child reaches the age of 18. At the age of 18 the child can apply for study contribution. A ruling from the District Commissioner must be submitted with the application.

Single Parent's Allowance

Single parent's allowance may be paid to single parents who live in Iceland, have two or more dependent children under the age of 18 and are registered with the same legal domicile as the children in question.

Home-care allowance

Home-care allowance is financial assistance to providers of disabled and/or chronically ill children as well as children with developmental disability. An application must be submitted together with a medical certificate and other supporting documents.

Parental Payments

Parental payments are made to parents of chronically ill or severely disabled children. Payments are made to those parents who have had to quit their jobs or give up their studies due to a child's illness or disability.

Suspension of payments

Individuals can apply for suspension of child support, single parent's allowance, child pension and home-care allowance.
